It’s a simple process that can be done online through the Missouri Department of Labor website. It usually takes about ten minutes to complete.
If you happen to be interrupted during the filing process, there is a “Finish Later” button at the bottom of the screen that allows you to save your progress until Saturday night.
Throughout the filing process, you’ll find helpful hints and prompts that provide additional information. Just click on them to learn more.
What You’ll Need to File an Unemployment Claim
To file an unemployment claim, you’ll need the following information:
- Your Social Security number
- Total earnings for the week (before taxes and deductions)
- Name, address, and dates of employment for each employer you’ve worked for in the last 18 months
- Banking information (routing and account number) if you prefer direct deposit for benefit payments
Three Easy Steps to File for Unemployment
Step 1: Set Up an Account
There is no charge to file for unemployment, and setting up an account is simple. Just visit the Missouri Department of Labor website and click on “Create One” on the login page.
Choose “I want to file an unemployment claim” and provide the necessary information, such as your Social Security number, name, date of birth, and user ID and password.
Step 2: Login and File Your Unemployment Claim
Once you’ve created your account, log in with your user ID and password. Click on “Unemployment Claim” and select “File Unemployment Claim” to begin the filing process.
Follow the prompts and provide the required information. After completing the claim, you’ll receive a printable confirmation page with the minimum number of job contact search activities you need to perform each week.
Step 3: File Weekly Requests for Payment
After each week has ended, it’s important to file a weekly request for payment, even for the week you initially filed for unemployment. To do this, log in to your account on the Missouri Department of Labor website and select “Weekly Request for Payment.”
Follow the prompts until you receive a confirmation for your weekly request.
