What to do now so that a third stimulus check reaches you immediately if approved

What to do now so that a third stimulus check reaches you immediately if approved?

There are at least two steps you must take. As soon as tax season begins this year, on February 12, you should immediately send your return to the IRS.

That’s the first step in helping the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) expedite the disbursement of a third $1,400 stimulus check if it is approved.

The agency has recommended that taxpayers file their tax information electronically instead of mailing their documents.

If you are not required to file taxes, you must still go through the return process to have any stimulus payments due on the stimulus check processed.

The IRS has indicated that those who have not received any of the stimulus checks distributed at this time may claim them through the “Recovery Refund Credit” on their next tax return.

As part of that process, you will have the option to request that the refund or any money from the agency such as “Economic Impact Payments” be disbursed by direct deposit into a bank account.

And that is precisely the alternative you should request so that new stimulus funds are automatically directed to your account. Usually, the bank account the IRS has on file for tax refunds is the same one you use to deposit stimulus checks.

“The best and fastest way to get your refund is to have it direct deposited into your financial account for free,” the IRS states on its website. The agency offers the alternative of entering at least three different accounts in case the person wants to split the refund money.

IRS figures show that nine out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refund within 21 days if they choose to file their taxes electronically and request direct deposit.

In the case of the first and second round of stimulus checks, the Americans who received payments first were those who provided their bank information for direct deposit to the IRS, as well as beneficiaries of federal government programs such as Social Security and Veterans Affairs for whom the agency also has their financial data.

In terms of the second check, the authorities did not allow taxpayers to edit their information online to enter the data for direct deposit, so those who do not receive it and are eligible must request payment through the “Recovery Refund Credit”.
