The Unemployment
The IRS will process your missing stimulus check payment until Feb

The IRS will process your missing stimulus check payment until Feb. 12.

Posted on by

In case of a problem with your payment you will have to file a claim during the tax season. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Treasury Department have sent more than 100 million stimulus payments through direct deposit, a payment method that allows the agency to quickly process a larger number of deposits.

However, the IRS tracking tool did not allow taxpayers to sign up or change direct deposit information this time. Some people reported problems with their stimulus check being sent to the wrong bank account, meaning millions have been unable to receive their stimulus payments this way.

In the event that the IRS does not have your bank information, you will have no choice but to wait for your check in the mail. If there is a problem with your payment you will have to file a claim during tax season. If you did not receive your second stimulus check this way but want to receive a third stimulus check through direct deposit in the future, you will need to register with the IRS through your 2020 tax return.

The Bad News

If you are missing all or part of the money the IRS owes you from your first or second stimulus check, the only way to receive it will be to wait until at least mid-February to see your check.

February 12 will be the first IRS tax filing opening day, so you’ll have to wait. However, you can start preparing now, learn what you need to know and gather the necessary documents for filing your taxes. This will be necessary also for people who were not normally required to file taxes.

You can start preparing your return online with the IRS’s free Free File tool so that when the time comes you can claim the credit to get your payment.

The IRS has recommended filing your tax return electronically to avoid further delays in collecting your money.
