What to do to get your stimulus check faster

What to do to get your stimulus check faster?

Posted on by

During the distribution of the first stimulus check, those who had a bank account registered with the IRS through their tax filings could benefit from having the money from the stimulus check directly deposited into their accounts. These people were the ones who had the fastest support.

It would be best, in light of a second stimulus check, if you already had a bank account open to expedite the potential payment. If you authorize the distribution of this second payment, you will most likely activate the possibility of registering it through the Get My Payment online service, in its Spanish version, as was done at the time to help those who had not yet received their first payment.

All you had to do to get them to directly deposit the money from their first stimulus check was use the Get My Payment online service. Here you could enter the information needed for direct deposit of your stimulus payment, plus find out the status of your check (whether or not it had already been sent) and see if anything is holding up your payment.

Please note that the deadline to sign up for this tool and receive your first stimulus check by direct deposit has passed.

However, those who have not yet received their first payment have the opportunity to register through the Non-Filers tool, which is available until November 21, 2020, if you have not filed a 2019 federal tax return or obtained an Economic Impact Payment, nor has it been registered for an Economic Impact Payment previously.

College students can ask for a stimulus check, but they are running out of time

Students could receive from $1,200. College students who are not dependent on their parents and do not need to file a tax return must submit their information to the IRS using the No-Filers tool before this November 21 in order to receive a stimulus check before the end of the year, the IRS reported.

Generally, a student who is not dependent on guardians and who enrolls using the Non-Filers tool receives a payment of $1,200 if he or she is single or $2,400 if he or she is married and files a joint return and the student or spouse is not claimed as a dependent by others. If they have dependent children, they can also receive an additional $500 for each qualifying child.

Only students who provide their own support and are not required to file a tax return should use the Non-Filers tool. Students who are dependents of guardians do not qualify. This means that any student who is claimed as a dependent by his or her parents or another person cannot receive payment.

Recent college graduates may not have received a stimulus check because their parents or someone else claimed them as dependents. If their situation changes, these graduates may be eligible for the Recovery Refund Credit when they file their 2020 tax return in 2021.
