The procedure for requesting the third stimulus check that has not arrived to you

The procedure for requesting the third stimulus check that has not arrived to you

Posted on by

The IRS has already processed most of the $1,400 third round payments; if you are still eligible and have not received your payment, you will probably have to take further action.

Since March 12, when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began the process of distributing the third $1,400 stimulus check under the Biden Administration’s “American Rescue Plan,” approximately 165 million payments have been delivered.

That figure, released by the IRS last week, exceeds that of the first and second round of payments. Under the Coronavirus Assistance, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, about 160 million stimulus checks were distributed.

While under the second, the 2021 Supplemental Appropriations in Response and Pandemic Relief Act, about 147 million of the so-called “Economic Impact Payments” were released.

At this point in the third round disbursement process, two months after the IRS and the Treasury Department initiated the process, most of the payments have been sent to recipients, primarily through direct deposit.

IRS sends “plus-up” or additional payments to some taxpayers

At the moment, the agency is concentrating on the calculation of “plus-up” or additional payments. This refers to taxpayers who were issued an initial check based on their 2019 tax return, but the IRS later received this year’s return and had to make a payment adjustment based on the difference in income between the two documents.

Taxpayers in these cases will receive additional or supplemental payments.

Third Stimulus Check to Taxpayers Filing for the First Time

The IRS is also processing payments to individuals who filed a tax return with the office for the first time in the past few days.

With the close of the extended filing period on May 17, the IRS is getting closer and closer to completing the distribution of the third round of stimulus checks.

“Follow-up payment” for claiming third stimulus check due from the IRS

This is why if you still have not received your due payment by next month, you will probably need to take further action.

The first alternative available to you is to request a “follow up payment”.

You need a “1444 Notice” from the IRS.

This can be done if you received a notice in the mail from the IRS (Notice 1444) in which the agency confirms that your third stimulus payment was mailed to you, but you did not receive it or do not have it, either because it was stolen, thrown away, or there was a problem with the United States Postal Service (USPS).

“Get My Payment may make it easier for you to claim your third due stimulus check.

If you entered your information into the “Get My Payment” tool on IRS.gov and the system confirmed that the payment was already processed, how it was processed – either by direct deposit or EIP Card or paper check by mail – and an arrival date, but you never received the check, you can also request a follow-up payment from the IRS.
