Stimulus check four When can it be received and who can claim it

Millions of Americans are waiting for another stimulus check to arrive. Here who will be able to claim another payment this 2022 and when they will receive it.

The U.S. government has sent three stimulus checks to help citizens cope with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, as coronavirus infections caused by the omicron variant increase, millions of Americans are waiting for Congress to approve another payment.

While it is unlikely that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will send a fourth stimulus check in the near term, some Americans may receive additional payments this 2022.

Stimulus check in 2022: Starting when it can be received and who can claim it

Families and taxpayers who did not receive their third stimulus check or who received it incompletely can claim it this 2022 through their 2021 tax return.

According to the IRS tax calendar, the window for filing such a return is Jan. 24 through April 18 or Oct. 17 if an extension request is filed. Once the return is processed, the tax agency will send the money from the check as part of the tax refund.

Who can claim it?

As part of the third stimulus check, parents of babies born during 2021 or adopted during 2021 will be able to receive up to $1,400 this 2022.

Under the American Rescue Plan, taxpayers can receive up to $1,400 for each child. However, families who had a child or adopted after filing their 2020 tax return will receive the money this year, as information about new dependents will be included on the 2021 return to be filed in 2022.

On the other hand, those who had a significant drop in income from 2020 to 2021 may also qualify for another stimulus payment in 2022 or a supplemental payment. This is because the IRS issued stimulus checks based on 2019 and 2020 tax information.

Eligible taxpayers who did not receive the third check or their payments arrived incomplete can claim them through the Refund Recovery Credit on the 2021 tax return. More details and requirements here.
