How to Make an Unemployment Insurance Tax Payment

Posted on by

An integral part of running a business is navigating the various tax obligations, including making regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax payments.

This can often be a complex and tedious process, and yet, it’s a crucial aspect that ensures your business stays compliant with state regulations. This article aims to simplify this process by providing an in-depth, easy-to-follow guide on how to make UI tax payments. Whether you’re a new business owner making your first-ever tax payment, or an established one seeking a refresher on the process, this guide covers all the necessary steps, from determining the amount to choosing a payment method and meeting all deadlines. Our objective is to make this obligatory financial task less daunting for you and your business.

The Kansas Department of Labor provides a step-by-step guide on how to make a payment for your quarterly wage report and unemployment tax. There are three methods available:

1. ACH Debit

To make an ACH Debit payment, you’ll need to access your account on our website, www.kansasemployer.gov. If you already have a username and password, click on “Employer Login.” If you don’t have an account yet, click on “Create a Username and Password.” Once logged in, you can update account information, report new hires, file wage reports and tax returns, and make online tax payments. To make a payment, select the “Make Payment” or “View Payment Voucher” button. A KDOL payment voucher will appear, and you can select “Pay Online.” You have two payment options: electronic check or credit card (with a transaction fee).

2. ACH Credit

If you prefer to make an ACH Credit payment, you’ll need to contact your banking institution and the Kansas Department of Labor to set up an electronic file. Contact us at 785-296-5027 to obtain the necessary banking information. Make sure to have your employer serial number and FEIN available when you call.

3. Official Payments

The third payment option is through Official Payments, a service for various Kansas state taxes, including unemployment tax. Call 1-800-272-9829. Select option 2 to pay state taxes, enter the jurisdiction code 2611#, select option 1 for unemployment tax, and enter your employer account number (6-digit unemployment tax serial number). Please note that there is a transaction fee for this payment method.

We hope this information helps you in successfully making your payment. If you have further questions, please visit www.kansasemployer.gov to review the frequently asked questions. Thank you for choosing the Kansas Department of Labor as your reliable resource.
