How to File Your Quarterly Wage Report and Unemployment Tax Return | Kansas Department of Labor

The Kansas Department of Labor presents a comprehensive guide to filing your quarterly wage report and unemployment tax return.

This step-by-step guide will simplify the filing process for each quarter, whether you had paid wages or not.

Information Needed

Before starting the online filing process, you will need to gather the following information:

  • All employee names and Social Security numbers
  • Gross wages paid in the quarter
  • Your employer’s unemployment tax account or serial number and four-digit PIN (found on your KCNS-050 Notice of Establishment)

Accessing the Online Filing System

To begin, access the website www.kansasemployer.gov and click on “Employer Login”. If you don’t have a username and password, click on “Create a Username and Password”.

What Would You Like to Do

After logging in, you will be directed to a page that allows you to perform various tasks. To file your quarterly wage report and unemployment tax return, select “File a Quarterly Wage Report”. If you didn’t pay any wages in a quarter, choose “File a Zero Dollar No Wages Quarterly Wage Report”.

Completing the Filing Process

Once you select the appropriate option, you will be prompted to enter your unemployment tax account or serial number, PIN, and the quarter you want to file. Please note that if a quarter is not available, it means it has already been filed.

In the next step, you will fill in the grid with each employee’s Social Security number, name, and gross wages paid. The employee’s information will pre-populate for subsequent quarters, and you will only need to add the gross totals and any new employees at the bottom of the grid.

Before moving on, you must report the number of employees who worked each month. This information is necessary to proceed.

After recording all the employee data, click “Calculate Totals”. Remember, saving as a draft will not complete the filing process.

The final step is to certify the accuracy of the information by checking the small box and providing a valid email address. Double-check the email address as this is where the confirmation will be sent. Finally, click “Submit” to complete the filing process.

Payment Voucher

Upon submitting, you will be directed to the payment voucher. We strongly recommend choosing the option to make payment online through a secure electronic check or credit card transaction.

And there you have it! You have successfully filed your quarterly wage report and unemployment tax return with payment.
