Stimulus checks are still being distributed to Americans, with recent checks worth $1,300 going out to certain individuals.
While some states are providing checks ranging from $300 to $3,000, others are considering a national Universal Basic Income program that would provide every American with a $1,200 monthly check for five years.
Stimulus Checks at the State Level
Several states are currently sending out stimulus checks. Here is a list of the most recent states and the amount of the checks being distributed:
- Idaho: Checks ranging from $300 for individuals to $600 for families.
- Illinois: Property tax rebates of up to $300, income tax rebates of $50 for individuals and $100 for couples, and $300 for families with dependents.
- Massachusetts: 13% of a resident’s 2021 state income.
- Montana: Property tax rebates of up to $1,350 over two years for homeowners who have lived in or owned a residence in Montana for at least seven months in the previous year.
- New Mexico: $500 to $1,000 economic relief payments and separate payments of $500 to $1,000 for residents who filed their 2021 tax returns.
Universal Basic Income Proposal
There is a proposal for a national Universal Basic Income program that would provide every American with a $1,200 monthly check for five years. While this program has shown signs of success on a local and state level, there is no clear plan for how it would be funded or when it would be implemented.
Stimulus checks are still being distributed in some states, while a national Universal Basic Income program is being considered. Although there are no guarantees that this program will become a reality, it is an interesting idea that continues to be discussed.
