Here we’ll show you the tutorial on how to make an initial unemployment claim in Pennsylvania. We will tell you what to do and what you need to do to file your claim.
Documents and Requirements for the Initial Claim
Here we will show you the information requested by the official unemployment website (uc.pa.gov). This is information about the separation from the employer and also the personal information of yours that is needed. Here is the list:
Information on separation from the employer
- Employer’s name, address and phone number
- Employer’s PA UC account number (if known)
- The first and last day he worked with the employer
- Reason for leaving
- Information on pension or severance pay (if applicable)
Personal Information
- SSN
- Home address and mailing address (if different)
- Phone number
- Valid email address
- PIN – Personal Identification Number (optional) – If you have previously submitted a claim to UC using your previous PIN, you can avoid having to re-enter the information
- Direct deposit bank information (optional) – bank name, address, account and routing number

INFORMATION ON THE CLAIMANTS:
- Social Security Number
- Home address, mailing address (if different from your home address)
- Telephone number and valid email address
- If you are not a U.S. citizen or national: Alien Registration Number
- If you were on active duty in the U.S. military during the past 18 months: Form DD 214, Member 4

THE LATEST INFORMATION FROM THE EMPLOYER:
- Name of employer where you no longer work or for whom you are working reduced hours
- The employer’s full mailing address, telephone and fax number, e-mail address, and UC account number, if known
- The first and last date you worked for this employer
- Gross income during your last week of work, if available
- The reason you left or, if you still work, the reason you work fewer hours
- If this employer has been called: date of call
- If you worked for a college, university or school: your return date after a break and original
terms of agreement - If you receive a termination indemnity: amount of indemnity
- Other states where you have worked in the last 18 months
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:
- Names and addresses of all your employers where you worked in the last 18 months.
- The first and last dates you worked for these employers.
DIRECT DEPOSIT INFORMATION:
(Direct deposit is not required to be eligible or to receive UC benefits)
- Name and address of the bank
- Bank phone number
- Bank account number and bank account routing number
Initial Claim
Having gathered all the above information, we now just do the process for the initial claim.
First we must go to the official Pennsylvania unemployment website: https://www.uc.pa.gov/unemployment-benefits/file/Pages/File%20an%20Initial%20Claim.aspx
Once you are on the website, click on the “File an Initial Claim” link.
