File for Unemployment Insurance
You may qualify for Louisiana unemployment benefits. To file an unemployment claim online, head over to www.laworks.net and click the follow your insurance claim button found on the home page.
From there you’ll be prompted to this page: louisianaworks.net/hire, it’s where LouisianWorks keep up with your information and where you file your weekly claims. Let’s walk through how to file. If you are having login issues, please send an email to hire@lwc.la.gov within the subject line please type password/username resets. In the body of the email please be sure to include your name, phone number and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).
For first time users click “Start or reopen an unemployment claim” at the bottom under reemployment services.
That’ll bring you to the welcome the hire page, scroll down and click “Next” to start your registration.
You’ll enter your social security number and verify your work history.
Login Information
Next you’ll create login information. Be sure to write your information down.
You’ll then continue through entering your personal information such as your name, address and phone number.
Employment Information
Next is filling out your employment information. be sure to select claimant under the unemployment eligibility status.
Employment – Miscellaneous
Here you’ll be asked if you’re filing for unemployment insurance benefits for reasons related to the pandemic. Be sure to click “Yes”.
Job Information and More
Continue answering questions to complete your registration and accounts.
Payment Information
Here you’ll be asked if you’d like to receive your payments using direct deposits or issued a debit card through u.s. bank.
Employment history
Next you’ll get to log in to your employment history be sure and add all employment and answer questions as accurately as possible.
Unemployment Insurance Claim Confirmation
When you’re done there, you’ll be prompted to the unemployment insurance claim confirmation page. Then you’ll confirm you want to file the claim and then will be given a list of things to do weekly while receiving your benefits.
Now you’re all set.
Remember, you can only receive benefits for 26 weeks. You must file each week. Sort of like filling out a weekly timesheet.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission is currently waiving the waiting period and job search requirement for unemployment benefits.
