In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the many features of UI Online. We’ll discuss the process of registering your UI Online account.
Let’s explore the many convenient features of UI Online. From UI Online you can certify for continued benefits, get detailed payment information, view your detailed claim history, view and print your UI benefit tax information, update your personal profile, receive important notifications about your claim and answers to any questions submitted.
You can also view all scheduled appointments, reschedule phone interviews, and receive a quick snapshot of your claim.

Mobile Friendly Version
For added convenience, a mobile friendly version is available for smart phone and tablet users.
With UI Online Mobile, you’ll see many of the same functions available on the full site. If additional information is needed to complete an action in UI Online Mobile, you will be redirected to the UI Online full site without having to log in for a second time.
Registration Process
Now that you know the benefits and features of UI Online let’s walk you through the registration process. Here’s the information you’ll need to get started. First and last name, as it appears on your UI claim, date of birth, and email address. If you don’t already have an email account, you will need to create one.
There are many free options available. You will also need, your Social Security number (SSN) and EDD Customer Account Number.
You can find your EDD Customer Account Number on the Employment Development Department Customer Account Number Notification mailed to you after you filed or reopened your claim.
Creating a Benefit Programs Online Account
Now, let’s get you registered. Since this is your very first time creating a Benefit Programs Online account; select Register.
Review the information on this page and select “I Agree” to continue.
Create Your Profile
Next, you’ll create your profile. You’ll start by entering your email address and creating a password. Your email should be a personal email, used only by you. When creating your password, be sure to follow the password requirements shown here.
Remember to never share your password with anyone. You will also need to select four security questions, and provide your answers to the questions in the Answer fields. Make sure you save these questions and answers, just in case you need to recover your password.
In addition, please select an image, and then provide a personal image caption. Your personal image caption is a word or phrase of your choice and is not a password. Next time you login, this image and caption will be displayed to assure you that you are on the official Benefit Programs Online website.
Then, at the bottom of the page, select the “I’m not a robot” checkbox. A set of images will display. Select all the images as instructed, and then select Verify. An audio option is also available which allows you to hear and type in a set of numbers.
You’ll only need to perform this step when registering for the first time or when requesting to reset your password. After completing this screen, select Next to continue.
Review the information you provided. If you want to make changes to any of your answers, select the “Previous” button to go back and make changes. When you’re ready, select Submit Registration to continue.
Registration Not Yet Completed
You’re almost done registering for your Benefit Programs Online account. The EDD will send an email to the address you provided with further instructions. Open the email and select the link included in the message.
If you do not select the link within 48 hours it will expire and you will have to start the registration process again. Your registration will be complete once you have selected the link in the email. If you do not receive this email message, check your junk/spam folder.
Registration Success
Once you select the link, you’ll be directed to this page which confirms your successful registration for Benefit Programs Online.
Login
Select “Log In” to be taken to the login page. Enter your email address, complete the security check and then select “Login.” To ensure that you are on the official Benefit Programs Online login screen, verify your personal image and personal caption.
They should match the ones you selected. Then, enter your password, and select “Login.”
Finishing
Now you’re ready to finish creating your UI Online account. Select UI Online to continue.
Here’s the Terms and Conditions page for Unemployment Insurance. You must select the “I Agree” button at the bottom of the page to continue creating your online account.
Personal Information
Enter your first name, last name, and your date of birth, as you provided to the EDD. UI Online offers Help Text for many fields. Select the “?” Help icon or the Help hyperlink on the upper right hand side of the page.
If you encounter issues within the registration process, you’ll be prompted with a phone number to call for technical assistance.
Next, enter your Social Security Number and EDD Customer Account Number. After completing this screen, select Next to continue.
Certification Preference
Next, you’ll choose your certification preference. If you select Yes, the EDD will not mail you the paper continued claim forms.
Instead, an alert message will be sent to your personal email account, letting you know that you have a new message waiting for you in your UI Online Inbox.
This message will let you know that you have new weeks available that are ready to be certified.
Please note, some documents may still be sent via U.S. Mail as required by law or EDD’s business process.
If you select No, the EDD will still send you paper forms. Even if you receive paper forms, you can still certify online any time that you want to. By only certifying online, not only are you getting paid faster, you’ll also be helping California save millions of dollars every year by avoiding unnecessary paper and postage fees.
After choosing your preference, select Submit to continue.
Registration Complete
You are now registered for UI Online. To access your UI Online account, select Benefit Programs Online, and login using your email address and password.
Select UI Online.
Personal Profile – Review Your Information
You’ll then see a welcome message and your personal profile page. Take a quick look to make sure you entered everything correctly. Just use the modify hyperlinks to make any changes.
If no changes are needed, simply select Continue to Homepage to start using UI Online.
